In order to draw attention in the Netherlands to the Tibet issue and Tibetan Buddhism, I created a “digilama”. The digilama is a concept for a mobile application that aims to increase the awareness of Buddhist wisdoms. In addition, it earns financial support for the Tibet Support Group. The focused target group can send a text message to a designated cell phone number.
The caller receives a once-only text message in return at the cost of 50 eurocent. The text message contains a wisdom (quotation or maxim) by H.H Dalai Lama. It is also possible to subscribe to a regular service: a daily or weekly text message. Both subscriptions offer the option to set a specific time at which the text message should be sent. As a thank-you in return for taking out a subscription – and as such providing enduring support to Tibet – the subscriber receives a Multimedia Message (MMS) containing a painting of His Holiness by Tashi Norbu. Each text message concludes with a link to a website where a range of information on Tibet can be found, as well as further explanations with regard to the quotations and maxims.
