The Kröller-Müller Museum is in possession of a world-famous collection of primarily 19th and 20th-century paintings and sculptures. Educational staff member Herman Tibosch wanted this gorgeous museum to become more accessible and meaningful to children between the ages of 8 and 13. I was commissioned to come up with a way of achieving that. I devised an interactive video installation, named the O-pini-O, the purpose of which is to offer much more than simple entertainment.

The O-pini-O game allows young visitors of the Kröller-Müller Museum to formulate an opinion on the museum’s collection, and to compare their own opinion to those of others. This is achieved by showing short films in which actors state opinions and make subjective statements regarding different parts of the collection. The young visitor then responds by marking the level to which he or she agrees with a stated opinion. At the end of the game, an outcome is given as to one’s personal “voting” behavior in comparison to others.
