Not every house in the open-air area of the Zuiderzeemuseum is accessible to the same extent. Rooms are often screened off by a wire so that their interior can only be viewed from a distance. What’s more, a large number of objects is not on display on account of theft protection. This is why the museum commissioned the development of a mobile game.

I create a concept and interface of the ZZGame. It's a location based game (devised especially for the open-air area of the Zuiderzeemuseum) that can be played on a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA). Players attempt to discover as many “true stories” as possible inside the museum houses within a sixty-minute time span. As soon as a player approaches one of the houses, lost souls start telling of times past on the PDA. The buildings are “possessed” by ghosts and emit creepy sounds such as a howling wind and squeaky doors.
It’s up to the player to “catch” and “exorcise” the ghosts. They are able to do so by uncovering which home belongs to that specific ghost, what profession he or she used to have, what the name of the ghost is, and which “true story” belongs to this ghost. Whoever answers the most questions correctly in the fastest time, wins the game.
